Chargers Put 3 on All-Region Team in Inaugural Region IV Women's Golf Tourney

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team had three players earn all-region honors and finished one stroke out of first place in the inaugural Region IV Division I tournament, which took place Tuesday and Wednesday at Lake Bracken.

The Chargers shot 435 on Tuesday and 431 in Wednesday’s final round to total an 866 for the tournament. Kishwaukee won the title by one shot after shooting rounds of 426 and 439.

Sandburg had three of the five individuals who earned spots on the All-Region IV team. Sophomore Averi Heintzelman (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) was runner-up with back-to-back rounds of 93. Freshman Olivia Schwingle took fourth after posting a 98 on consecutive days. Freshman Anna Duden (Gifford, Ill./Armstrong) finished fifth with rounds of 95 and 102.

Abby Hamman of Alexandria Tech fired rounds of 84 and 85 to earn medalist honors.
